Flensers start with the slaughter of a female Fin whale
On the sides of the slaughter deck were the insertion holes for the blubber (the bacon), the bones,
the meat and the liver. Further on were the capstans and bone saws, which are indispensable in the
dissection of the whale. In the middle deckhouse we find the carpenter's workshop, the welding
shop, the forge and the laboratory. On the main deck in the forward deckhouse was the large dining
room (16 by 10 meters) for the factory and deck staff. This dining room was also used as a cinema.
Furthermore, the galley, the bakery and the butcher's shop were in this deckhouse.
On the port deck were the mess rooms for the civil service, the engine room personnel and the non-
commissioned officers. In addition, the accommodation for the deck staff and on the starboard side
the medical department with the hospital (11 beds), the outpatient clinic, the X-ray room, the
operating room and the cabins for the doctor and male nurses. Further on the port deck is the ship's
office. Above the port deck successively the lower bridge deck, the bridge deck and the upper bridge
deck as well as the control bridge deck with, among other things, accommodation for the civil service,
the officers, the officers' dining room, the salon and the senior officers' dining room. On the steering
bridge deck, we are about 24 meters above the water level. On this deck were the captain's quarters
and rooms for the nautical and radio service. The radio service had a radio room, a "plotting" room, a
workshop and two warehouses at its disposal. The plotting room was separated from the chart room
by a transparent plotting board, which was illuminated from the sides.
